IT is being billed as a credit card with a conscience.
The GreenCard, launched last week by St George Bank and the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife, claims to provide the same services as other credit cards, at no cost to the user, while raising funds for nature conservation.
St George Bank Credit Cards head Brad Matthews said a percentage of every transaction was donated to the foundation (the exact figure is confidential).
``St George is pleased to contribute to an initiative that will provide funds for projects to protect our natural environment," Mr Matthews said.
The GreenCard interest rate is 15.99 per cent per annum, with 55 days interest free.
Meantime, the Bendigo Bank has introduced a Green Home Loan to encourage the construction of environmentally friendly, energy efficient homes.
Oak Flats Community Bank branch manager John Sinclair said the loan could save customers $500 each year on a $100,000 loan.
He said people building a new home with the environment in mind needed to meet certain criteria to qualify for the Green Home Loan.
Simple design features such as solar hot water, low-flow shower heads, ceiling and wall insulation and fluorescent lighting counted towards the five-star environmental rating required to apply for the loan.
